Some Thoughts About Our Ministry...

Just as church members have different gifts from the Holy Spirit in order to accomplish the ministry of the local church body, we believe the Lord calls and uses many different kinds of missionaries to get His work accomplished on a global scale. Some missionaries minister to physical and medical needs, others teach, and others are involved in the administration and oversight of various outreach ministries. There are also those who focus most of their efforts on establishing new churches. These missionaries are called church-planting missionaries.

As church-planting missionaries, our main goal is to work with new converts to organize them into local church bodies that will be able to support, govern, and propagate themselves. This is carried out in a three step process:

  1. By sharing the message of salvation with those who are lost
  2. By baptizing and discipling new believers into maturity in Christ
  3. By training and sending out those who have been called and are able to reach outlying areas with the Gospel of Christ

This three step process takes time, especially in countries where people are not as quick to respond to the Good News. While we occasionally do door-to-door evangelism, and are open to and try to incorporate a variety of methods that allow us to share the Gospel, we have discovered that the most effective means of reaching the lost in Chile is through friendship evangelism. We are careful to take advantage of every opportunity that God gives us to share the message of salvation with all those we have contact with - some, on a regular basis, others in a once-in-a-lifetime situation. This involves being sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit as He works in the hearts of those around us. Generally speaking, people are slow to place any amount of trust in strangers. This is especially true in Chile. Sometimes it takes a lot of time and effort to build the kind of relationship where people are finally convinced that what you say and live are the same and that the God of the Bible is real and what He says is worth hearing.
